High-Precision CNC Waterjet Cutting Machine for Metal, Stone, Glass & Composites JINZUAN
(English Introduction of Stone Waterjet Cutting Machine)
A stone waterjet cutting machine, often simply referred to as a waterjet or abrasive waterjet, is an industrial tool that uses an extremely high-pressure stream of water, often mixed with an abrasive substance (typically garnet), to cut through a wide variety of materials, including various types of stone.
The principle of operation involves a pump pressurizing water to ultra-high pressures (often 3600 to 4000 bar or even higher, up to 60,000-90,000 PSI). This high-pressure water is then forced through a tiny nozzle, creating a focused, high-velocity stream. For harder materials like stone, an abrasive material is introduced into this water stream in a mixing chamber, significantly enhancing its cutting power. This abrasive waterjet stream erodes the material at a very high speed, allowing for precise and intricate cuts.
Stone waterjet cutting machines are commonly used in the fabrication of countertops, tiles, flooring, wall cladding, artistic designs, and architectural features from materials such as granite, marble, quartz, limestone, slate, and other natural and engineered stones.
(Advantages of Stone Waterjet Cutting Machines)
Stone waterjet cutting offers numerous benefits that make it a preferred method in many stone fabrication applications:
Precision and Intricacy: Waterjets can achieve incredibly high precision and accuracy (often down to 0.001 inches or 0.025 mm). They are ideal for creating complex, non-linear cuts, intricate designs, sharp corners, and detailed patterns that would be difficult or impossible with traditional cutting methods like saws. This includes cutting sink holes, arcs, radii, and other custom shapes.
No Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ): Unlike thermal cutting processes (e.g., laser or plasma cutting), waterjet cutting is a "cold cutting" process. It does not generate heat, which means there is no thermal distortion, material warping, or changes to the stone's internal structure or properties. This preserves the original strength and appearance of the stone.
Minimal Material Waste (High Material Utilization): The waterjet produces a very thin cut (minimal kerf), leading to less material loss. This is particularly advantageous when working with expensive stone slabs, as it maximizes material utilization and reduces scrap. It also allows for nesting parts closer together.
Versatility in Materials: Waterjets can cut virtually any type of stone, regardless of its hardness or brittleness, including granite, marble, quartz, ceramic, porcelain, and even ultra-compact surfaces. They can also cut various thicknesses, from a few millimeters to several inches (even over 12 inches of granite).
Smooth Edge Finish (Reduced Secondary Finishing): Waterjet cuts often result in a satin-smooth edge, which frequently eliminates or significantly reduces the need for secondary finishing operations like grinding or polishing, saving time and labor costs.
Environmentally Friendly: Waterjet cutting is considered a "green technology." It typically uses only water and an inert abrasive (like garnet). It produces no hazardous fumes, smoke, or dust particles (as these are trapped in the water). The water can often be filtered and recycled in a closed-loop system, and the abrasive can also be collected and repurposed.
No Tool Changes for Different Shapes: A waterjet can cut various shapes and designs without requiring tool changes, which saves setup time and reduces downtime.
Reduced Fixturing: Due to the low lateral and vertical forces exerted by the waterjet, minimal clamping or elaborate fixturing is often required to hold the material in place.
Increased Productivity (for certain applications): While sometimes slower for simple straight cuts compared to saws, for complex or intricate cuts, waterjets can be significantly faster due to their precision and ability to eliminate secondary operations. They can also cut multiple layers of thinner material simultaneously (stack cutting), further increasing efficiency.
These advantages make stone waterjet cutting machines highly valuable tools in the stone fabrication industry, enabling manufacturers to produce high-quality, precise, and complex stone products efficiently and sustainably.
